Garden & Nest Update

Rainy today, I just took a few pictures in the garden (using my back-up camera, my Canon will have to be sent in for repairs, luckily the extended warranty will cover the cost!). I also checked on the junco nest, there are now 5 eggs in it.

Portugal Cove & A Dead Camera

I took these pictures in Portugal Cove today. As I was taking pictures the camera just died. It sounded like it was still taking photos but there was just a black screen. I tried changing lenses, the battery and the memory card, no luck. I guess after two and a half years and a lot of photos it had enough! Hopefully our extended warranty will take care of it, we will check tomorrow when the store opens. The last photo here is the very last photo I took with my camera. I have a small point and shoot camera I can use so I will still be able to take photos for my photo-a-day blog, but it won't be the same.

On a Sunny Day

Sunny and warm today, here are 2 photos from the garden, cherry tree blossoms and a buttercup.

Junco and Nest

I found a junco's nest in the back garden today. I was pulling weeds when a junco flew up out of the grass. It stayed in the tree chirping at me so I figured there must be a nest nearby. I looked under some dead grass and there was the small nest with two teeny tiny eggs in it. It's very close to where I mowed the grass so it's lucky it survived. I am going to keep an eye on it and maybe get a picture of baby juncos.

Ponds and Fog

A couple of photos taken today. It was sunny but there was fog drifting in, and it wasn't that warm either. The first photo is of Quidi Vidi Lake, the other two were taken at Kenny's Pond.

Cabot Tower in Fog

The fog was very thick today and yesterday (flights at the airport were cancelled) and it's been cold. I was on Signal Hill this morning and you could barely see Cabot Tower.

Juvenile Junco

This baby Junco was on the deck today, all puffed up in the cold rain.

Quidi Vidi Icebergs

This large iceberg is just outside Quidi Vidi Village. The other one is the same iceberg that I've been photographing since May 31st, it's now off Cuckold's Cove, between Signal Hill & Quidi Vidi. There was a bank of fog out there all day, making it pretty cool along the coast but it was hot elsewhere in the city.

Bannerman Park

The tulips and daffodils are blooming all around the city.

Fog

There was low lying fog this morning when I was on Signal Hill. The iceberg that was near Blackhead on the weekend has moved off Signal Hill. This is the same iceberg from May 31, June 1 & 2.

Adventure!

I went on an impromptu adventure today. I had heard that there was a large iceberg in Conception Bay North so I decided to drive out there and see it. I drove to Upper Island Cove and then to Port de Grave, the iceberg was between those two places. When I got to Port de Grave I decided to walk out to the lighthouse and then decided to do a geocache out there (I found it!). On the way home I went back out to Blackhead to see how the iceberg had changed because yesterday part of it cracked off. Then I drove up Signal Hill where you could see a few more smaller bergs. All in all a full day!

From Our Drive

A few photos from our drive today. We went in search of icebergs and saw several large ones in the distance and a few small ones close to shore.

Iceberg - Day 3

We drove out to see the iceberg again today, just to see if it had moved or changed shape. It's in pretty well the same place. It was a lot colder and windier today, I managed to get there just in time to get a photo of a small boat next to the iceberg.

Same Iceberg

This is the same iceberg I saw outside the harbour yesterday. It floated a bit and is now near the small community of Blackhead on the road to Cape Spear. And luckily we had nicer weather today than yesterday.
