Police & Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony
We saw the ceremony while driving by so we stopped and went in to watch it and take photos.
These pictures show mostly the RCMP officers but there were representatives from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, federal fisheries officers, provincial wildlife enforcement officers, correctional officers, military & municipal police and also the Rangers, RCMP and RNC veterans. You can see more photos on my website this week. The officer saluting in the 4th picture appears to be a French Police Officer, I am assuming from Saint Pierre & Miquelon.

Bee and Hover Fly
I found this bee on the deck today, it wasn't moving much, so I scooped it up on a leaf and put it on the sedum. Then I saw a lot of hover flies around the sedum and managed to get some macros of them as well (they are fast!). In the first one you can see its tongue and in the second one you can see my reflection.

Old Lighthouse at Cape Spear
This lighthouse was built in 1835 and it's the oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland. It's not operational now (it is a museum) and a new lighthouse stands not far from it (the new lighthouse was built in 1955). Cape Spear is now a National Historic Site. I altered this photo to make it look like it could have been taken many years ago.

Charity Golf Tournament
Today I volunteered to take photos at the Janeway Children's Hospital annual charity golf tournament. It was sunny but windy and the wind was cool in the morning. The highlight was the helicopter ball drop. Tickets were sold and the owner of the ticket on the ball that went into the hole won a trip for 2 anywhere Air Canada flies in North America.

On Goldenrod
The goldenrod is blooming now and I find it to be a magnet for flying insects. Here are a few I took today along a walking trail.

Quidi Vidi
2 pictures from Quidi Vidi. The first is the waterfalls where Quidi Vidi Lake empties. The 2nd I found funny. This sign next to a bench, the bench is chained to the sign with nothing else around. I am not so sure why sitting on the bench would be so risky.

Gladiolas
We had some friends over for supper on Saturday and one of them brought me this gorgeous bouquet of Gladiolas. The bouquet is so big that I couldn't get a good picture of it all with a clean background, so you'll have to settle for just a bit of it. Thanks Edwina!
