First Cut

I mowed the grass today for the first time this year. What's the best thing about mowing the lawn? The smell of newly cut grass or the satisfaction of running over dandelions?

Scrabble

Does anyone else love to play Scrabble? I do but I usually can't get anyone to play with me (they won't play Boggle with me either....seems I am too good at it!)

Logy Bay today near the Ocean Sciences Centre. The temperature was 9 degrees but it was windy and there was a bit of fog hanging around and I could see my breath at times.

My Brother

This is my (baby) brother, a new constable in the RCMP. He's here in the city doing some extra training for a few days.

Tapper's Cove, Torbay

A beautiful warm day today, I took some pictures of the crashing waves at Tapper's Cove in Torbay and walked up the hill on part of the walking trail to get more pictures.

Crow

A crow in the back garden stealing peanuts I put out for the blue jays. He looks evil.

Goldfinch

A bright male goldfinch on the deck today. He stayed there for a long time and sang. I think he was trying to get the attention of the female goldfinch at the feeder.

Government House

Government House downtown, residence of the Lieutenant Governor, the Queen's representative in Newfoundland. The grounds are open to the public.

Patchy Fog

I guess this is what they call patchy fog......one patch moving from the harbour up to the city. It looks like smoke.

Happiness

My sister visited this weekend and she gave me this beautiful Willow Tree figurine named "Happiness" (I collect them). My photo does not do it justice.

Budding Maple

Things are growing in my garden, this is a budding maple tree.

Newfoundland & Labrador Dogs

These dog statues are in Harbourside Park downtown, a Newfoundland Dog and a Labrador Retreiver. It was a grey, foggy day and not much interesting to take pictures of.

Quidi Vidi Lake

Quidi Vidi Lake, the boathouse and one of the boats that is rowed in the annual Regatta in August.

Botanical Gardens

I went to the Botanical Gardens today, there was not a lot blooming. I was surprised to see bees and butterflies, though. I also saw a Ruffed Grouse but it was in the woods and I didn't get good pictures of it.

Osprey

I read on a local birding newsgroup that there was an Osprey's nest not far from me (Portugal Cove Road just past Old Broad Cove Road, for anyone around St. John's who wants to go see it). I drove out there this morning and watched the Osprey fly back and forth to the nest a few times. The nest is on top of an electrical pole on the side of the road.

Bowring Park Again

I went back to the park again today to take more pictures of the waterfalls and river (they turned out pretty well the same as yesterday's pictures). While I was taking pictures of the falls there were 2 young boys very interested in what I was doing. They were looking over my shoulder when I had the camera on the tripod. I showed them the pictures on the back screen and they were pretty impressed, I got a "Cool" and a thumbs up. Then they decided to climb around the waterfalls so of course I took a picture.

Bowring Park

I went to the park today with my tripod and ND8 filter to capture the flowing water.....it went pretty well. The top picture is the Waterford River and the waterfall runs into a very small pool/pond.

In Evening Light

Blue Jay

A Blue Jay on my deck in the rain getting peanuts I threw out for him. There were 2 out there, last fall I'd sometimes get 7 at a time.

The Battery

Lots of Crocuses

This little mound (I think it's called the peace mound) in Bannerman Park is full of crocuses every spring. There are dark and light purple, white, striped white & purple crocuses there and teeny tiny yellow ones.

Barn

Saw this cute barn/shed whe we were out for a drive in Topsail this afternoon. For some reason I like old red sheds. This looks old but kept up.

Red and Green

A rainy, cold day today, no chance of taking pictures outside. So instead here's a picture of some red and green healthy food.

Snow!

Yes, it's snowing. It'll probably all melt tomorrow.

Rennie's River in the middle of the city, heavy with rain and spring run off.

Lily

My Easter Lily is in full bloom now with 11 flowers in blossom. I'm finding it hard to get a good shot of all of the blossoms together though.

The Fog

I went to Signal Hill this morning. It was sunny up there but the city was covered in fog, making it pretty neat looking. The first picture shows the harbour covered in fog, the 2nd is the office building Joe works in.

Foggy Night

Quidi Vidi Village in the fog. I've never taken a picture on a foggy night before. A clear night, yes, but not a foggy one. This is a 2 second exposure.
