Flicker & Starling

Even though we live in the middle of the city we usually see birds in the trees and at the feeders in our back garden. Today I saw 10 robins, 20 starlings, 3 crows, several goldfinches and juncos and a flicker. I took some pictures (of course) of the flicker at the suet feeder and almost got a good shot of it chasing off the starling.

Northern Flicker

This Flicker came to the deck and ate a peanut when the blue jays were getting them. I didn't think a Flicker would eat a peanut, I thought they ate mostly insects. Oh well, I guess when it is -6 and there's snow on the ground a peanut will do.

Visitors

A Pigeon, Northern Flicker and Blue Jay on the feeder in the back garden today. I took the pigeon picture in the morning and the flicker picture in the afternoon. The Blue Jays were around the garden squawking for peanuts (I usually put peanuts out for them every day) so I thought it would be nice to get a picture of a blue jay on top of the feeder as well. So I put peanuts up there to lure them and it worked.
